New moon (ਅੰਮਾਵਸ) occurs when the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun (ਜਦੋਂ ਚੰਦਰਮਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), and the side of moon that is in shadow faces (ਚੰਦਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਛਾਵੇਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ) Earth (ਧਰਤੀ ਵਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ). Many Cultures and religion (ਬੜੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ) consider this event significant (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ) by celebrating certain festivals and performing rituals (ਤਿਓਹਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਨਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਰੀਤੀ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) but Gurmat doesn’t believe in any such significance (ਪਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਇਸਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਾਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ).
ਅਮਾਵਸਿਆ ਚੰਦੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਗੈਣਾਰਿ ॥ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ (ਰਾਗ ਬਿਲਾਵਲ - ਮ:੧ - ੮੩੮)
Amavasya (New Moon) signifies life without any spiritual wisdom or knowledge of Gurbani (ਗੁਰਮਤਿ) in life. It’s like a night with no moonlight. In such state of mind, true seeker can only contemplate on Shabad i.e. message of Gurbani.
ਅੰਮਾਵਸ ਮਹਿ ਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰਹੁ ॥ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰਹੁ ॥ (ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ - ਭਗਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ - ੩੪੩)
ਅਮਾਵਸ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖੀ ਭਏ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਲਾਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥ (ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ - ਮ:੫ - ੨੯੯)
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਤਮਿਕਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਵਾਦੀ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹੀ ਕੇਂਦਰਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
When my lifestyle is focused on materialistic possessions all the time, I remain unaware of Gurbani and wisdom in my life.
ਮਨ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਹੈ।
Mind that is unaware of Gurbani’s wisdom.
